BP OIL SPILL: WHAT’S NEXT?

Posted 05/06/2010

“WHO DAT, WHO DAT, WHO DAT SAY THEY GONNA SAVE OUR SHORES?”

Rodro’s ongoing project to raise awareness and money for Louisiana’s coastal erosion emergency has taken a desperate turn with the advent of the BP oil spill catastrophe. Despite the capping of the oil well horrific damage has already been done to the water, land, wildlife and people.

Although BP and our government have pledged to assist all those affected by the oil spill this will certainly not come to pass. Many such as old school Cajun fishermen that do not keep detailed records of their fishing expenses will fall through the cracks. Another demographic at extremely high risk is children of middle class and poor families who are suffering ailments as a result of various clean up activities such as the atmospheric spraying of dispersants.

Rodro return’s to southern Louisiana from July 20th – the 31st to volunteer, raise awareness and money for the community. The main event, the Friends Of The Bayou Children’s Health Fair, will take place on Saturday, July 24th, 9AM -1PM at the Ward 7 Community Center in Chauvin, LA. I will be doing an interactive reading of Goldysocks & The 5 Bayous, a sing along and activities related to going green down the bayou. Afterwards at 3PM I will be doing more of the same on the Back Porch at LA Cajun Stuff in the Southland Mall in Houma, LA. The New Orleans Children’s Museum presentation is set for 12PM - 2PM Sunday July 25th, 420 Julia St. Other readings and performances at the New Orleans Audubon Zoo and Peaches Records in the French Quarter are still not confirmed so please check back in for updates.

If you are interested in supporting Rodro in this endeavor please visit the Rodro Shop on the website and purchase a copy of Goldysocks & The 5 Bayous or contact Rodro at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to make a donation.
